International Workshop on Open Data for Sustainable Development Goals in Developing Countries

    The Task Group on Preservation of and Access to Scientific and Technical Data in/for/with Developing Countries, Committee on Data for Science and Technology (CODATA-PASTD), established in 2002, has provided a much-needed focus on the data preservation and archiving practices of developing countries. The PASTD has been engaging in promoting and enhancing the worldwide cooperation in ICTs and research data and in developing open knowledge environments for international science and sustainability in developing countries. International workshops and training sessions toward these goals have been held in a region series of the workshops during the last 15 years, including in China (Beijing, Shanghai) and Mongolia (Ulaanbaatar) of Asia, South Africa (Pretoria) and Kenya (Nairobi) of African, Cuba (Havana) of Caribbean region, , as well as Brazil (Sao Paulo), Columbia(Bogotá) and Mexico (Mexico city) of American. The CODATA-PASTD focus on the following objectives:

    1.Promote strategy, policy and institutional guidelines for implementation of open data principles in developing countries, especially in low and middle income countries

    2.Provide an interdisciplinary forum for enhancing capacity building and sharing best practice in developing countries;

    3.Advance data publishing in developing countries;

    4.Enhance data re-use and repositories in support of sustainable development;

    In responding to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the “Open Data in a Big Data World” –An International Accord, the International Workshop on Open Data for Sustainable Development Goals in Developing Countries will be held on September 4-7, 2017, Antananarivo, Madagascar.
